Mombasa Motor Club (MMC) will, on 20 August, hold its fourth leg of the six-part series Training Rally Championship at the Mombasa Cement farm in Vipingo.
The championship is aimed at encouraging drivers from the Coastal region to partcipate in the sport and realize their potential in motorsports. The competition is classified in three categories, 4WD, 2WD and Buggy.
Having the competition on their backyard helps, keep the running costs for crews down while also enjoying the competitive facet of the sport in a fun environment. The entire event is held in a day at a route set within the Mombasa Cement premises.
Saturday's event will feature two stages in the afternoon session, followed by three stages at night.
"The objective of the Club is to run fun-filled events while also keeping the competitor expense to a bare minimum. We started off this year with seven entrants but the last rally attracted a total of 11 drivers which is no mean achievement if we consider the current downturn," Paras Pandya one of the committee members offered.
The organisers have hinted at plans to bring in some of the old drivers who have not raced for years as they look to make this championship ever so competitive and well attended.
MMC's focus, currently, is on Coast drivers, to give them budget racing as travelling to upcountry events is costly especially in post-covid era.

The series also gives them the opportunity to develop their skills and prepare their cars to take part in national events where applicable.
"MMC is also extending invitations of entries to upcountry competitors and anyone willing to come and have a fun day at sea level.
Recce and rallying all happens on the same day as the entire rally program takes place inside the Mombasa Cement factory farm which is private land with no issues on human and motor traffic," added Pandya.
MMC have an active committee made up of Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) driver Pandya, Falgun Bhojak , Kamlesh Pandya, navigator Victor Okundi, veteran Kashif Shiekh, buggy driver Yusuf Pasta, co-driver Kavit Dave, Alfan Jiwa and Marguerite McKenzie.
At the same time, MMC is also developing its core team of marshals, safety officers, scrutineers, controllers and officials to desirable national and international standards so that during any national event it can provide the requisite support to the Kenya Motor Sport Federation (KMSF).
